Matrix out of all the movies gives us the most important lesson on living. Free Your Mind . Get rid of the tedious realms of self awareness. Get rid of the interfering self consciousness. Just EXPERIENCE. Sgt. William Jones from Hurt Locker, explains to his son “You love playing with that. You love playing with all your stuffed animals. You love your Mommy, your Daddy. You love your pajamas. You love everything, don’t ya? Yea. But you...

On February 9, 2010, I was handed over a small cheque… for myself. It was made out by a startup company that I founded four weeks prior to that. The amount wasn’t hair raising, infact it was small that it would barely last two weeks. But, it was my first cheque in four years. After walking out of a cushy job four years ago, diving headon into PFC, working 12 to 14 hours each day, every day for four years until…  Read More →

Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family……….. ……Choose your future. Choose life… But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin’ else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you’ve got heroin? So rants Renton at the start of ‘Trainspotting’ So what to do when one feels  trapped like a mouse in a routine life with an...

Disclaimer: I don’t usually write music reviews, but I make an exception this time, as I have been severely hit by a musical bazooka co-crafted by Dibakar Banerjee (lyrics) & Sneha Khanwalkar (Music). Love, Sex Aur Dhokha , since the day of its announcement has created ripples and has been creating khalbali among film-lovers across the board. What is strange is that the movie is up for release next week & the album has just come...

Warning- contains spoilers. I had seen invictus a month back. After that, I did not think about it, pretty intentionally for sometime. I saw it again last night. After I finished watching it, I saw it again, and again. On my third viewing, at about 3’ o clock in the night, I suddenly started to feel cold, very cold, when I could see my room partner sleeping half naked cause of the heat. I started wondering why I was feeling cold and why i...

Alright, this is super exciting! I am one of those people who lurk around the PFC site, gulping down every post and never bothering to make any valuable contribution other than some stray comment here or there. More than lack of interest, it’s the lack of having something interesting enough to share that had kept me away from it. But today, here I am posting something after more than two years of religiously following this site!  A...

My immediate reaction to “The Hurt Locker” was confined to a mere 140 characters . It was not because I was too overwhelmed and was at a loss for words, nor because the film didn’t deserve any lengthier mention. Swept over I was, totally. But what prevented me from writing about it then was that someone had already done it with so much elegance. The revered old boy didn’t even stop there, but carried on his effusive praises...

It’s been a while since I wrote my last post for PFC. Nothing particular, just normal roji roti kept me away from the site. I was settling down in a new job and for a while I thought “Oh, I am going to be so busy. How can I write?” And then, the new job effect was over and I realized that, at least for now, I have more time on my hand than I used to in my earlier job. So before PFC admins throw me out and take away my access as an author,...

“Like a well-made film, it all went according to the script: Kathryn Bigelow scored a historic first for female film-makers, and an eagerly anticipated David and Goliath-style battle saw the little guy triumph as The Hurt Locker walked away with six trophies and most of the headlines at the 82nd Academy Awards in Los Angeles.” The Independent . In spite of the apparent brave choice (independent, medium-budget art film with a woman director)...

Continuing my previous post on Song Packaging , I thought I’ll follow up the post with some new additions, many of which have been suggested by my readers and some that I might have missed out in my earlier post. To reiterate the disclaimer, I may have missed out on a number of songs that have cinematic excellence attached to it. These are the songs that came to my mind off the top of my head. I did not conduct an extensive research, or...

…than the handful who were present at the Multiplex where I saw the movie this evening. It’s an outstanding story in a superlative narrative about a very socially relevant subject. Madhur Bhandarkar, here’s how it’s done! The title is almost a contradiction in a story which talks about infants abandoned by their parents. The director, Irfan Kamal has dedicated the movie to his mother and I think the dedication has found...

Has it ever happened to you that a guest had overstayed in your house causing chaos to your daily routine ? And no matter how many hints you give , he just doesn’t  want to go . It happened to me once . A guest at my house took our hospitality a bit too seriously & stayed for just over 2 years . He loved having alcohol 24 hours a day & like a camel could stay hungry for more than two days . That’s another small town story where...

Recently I had gone to a friend of a friend of a friend’s place for a get-together. As is typical for such occasions, there were a number of things being discussed. One of the topics that came up was favorite trippy movies each has seen. What I noticed is that most of the movies thrown up were pretty obvious ( The Big Lebowski , Fear and Loathing , Wizard of Oz on Pink Floyd d etc). This prompted me to google it. And I was surprised...

Road, Movie poster When Vishnu (Abhay Deol) escapes the fate of selling scented hair-oil and takes on a road trip leaving behind his middle class surroundings to deliver a scrappy old truck to a town across the desert and makes his way through the unknown, you expect the journey to be significant. From Homer to the present day such journeys have presented excellent opportunities for the protagonist to go through ‘a rite of passage’ that...

Way too many noises in my head. As if 1000 cheated scriptwriters are congregating & wanting to be heard, each with a bound script of his/her own. They scream as dreams when I try to sleep. Everything I see, everyone I meet gives me a new idea for a scene or a film. Did I ask for it? Should I be thankful for it? Can I press the mute button? Why doesn’t my mind just crash the hell off? The above has been my state of mind for the past few...
